What is Hazing?
Hazing is something that has been around for centuries with social and sports clubs, community groups, sororities and fraternities exposing pledges to unheard of acts such as copious amounts of drinking and exposure to the elements when the person is stark naked.
While these things sound like something out of a bad movie they do still happen because people are not educated.
Can it Be Stopped?
Hazing can be stopped but it must start at the top. Sadly, some of those in charge sill believe that this is a rite of passage and something that everyone needs to go through. The NMB Foundation stresses that is certainly not the case.
When people are educated about the dangers of this outdated practice they will spread the word and tell others to as well.
One of the best things about education is that it puts people in charge. If students and other members of clubs make the powers that be aware when it is actually happening, hazing can be stopped. While it isn’t a simple task by any means, there is power in numbers.
